| IRENA elects Adnan Amin as new Director General The Global Wind Energy Council enthusiastically welcomed the election of Adnan Amin as the first Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The election came the day before the opening of IRENA's first general assembly, and marks the final stage of the establishment of IRENA at a critical time in the global debate on the future of energy. Mr. Amin beat his Spanish rival, former State Secretary Pedro Marin, by a vote of 76-36.
