| IRENA elects Adnan Amin as new Director General The Global Wind Energy Council enthusiastically welcomed the election of Adnan Amin as the first Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The election came the day before the opening of IRENA's first general assembly, and marks the final stage of the establishment of IRENA at a critical time in the global debate on the future of energy. Mr. Amin beat his Spanish rival, former State Secretary Pedro Marin, by a vote of 76-36. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was officially established in 2009, and its statutes have to date been signed by 148 states and the European Union, including 48 African, 38 European, 35 Asian, 17 American and 10 Australia/Oceania States. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
