Acrex India successful again for international experts

Two exhibitions took place at the same time in the Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre from 24–26 February 2011: the refrigeration and air conditioning exhibition Acrex India 2011 in seven halls, and the premiere of fensterbau/frontale india, the International Exhibition & Conference Window, Door and Facade, in hall 14. The two events were intentionally organized at the same time as the industry platforms with supplementary topics equally appeal to architects, planners and building experts. More than 40,000 highly qualified visitors from the Indo-Asian region ensured satisfaction and many firm orders among the almost 400 exhibitors at Acrex India.

India is one of the biggest economies in the world – 1.2 billion people live in an area about nine times larger than Germany. The economy is growing rapidly, with almost one-tenth of the Gross Domestic Product contributed by the building sector alone, which imports many quality products from abroad. Travellers in and around Delhi see new accommodation, residential districts and industrial areas springing up everywhere like mushrooms. Sustainability has also arrived on the subcontinent and a Green Building Council has existed since 2001, although not every new building is a real "green building".

This is where both Acrex and fensterbau/frontale india come in. The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), a dynamic refrigeration and air conditioning association and organizer of the twelfth Acrex, was very interested in combining the two exhibition themes – anyone looking at building services and cooling should also keep the building envelope and facades in mind. Combining the exhibitions was the obvious thing to do, as emphasized by Ashish Rakheja, Chairman of ACREX India 2011: "After all, this is an excellent opportunity to present the whole spectrum of building products for visitors in one place."

The constant influx into the megacities will cause the building boom to carry on growing. Approaches like the zero-energy house in container design presented at Acrex should rapidly bear fruit, because as an ISHRAE spokesman summed up: "India has a shortage of energy and water, and with infrastructure projects under such pressure, developers are extremely interested in energy efficiency." This was accordingly a major focus in the exhibition halls, workshops and conference rooms at the presentations by many international experts.

The organizer ISHRAE and the NürnbergMesse Group – responsible for international marketing – together with all the supporting organizations like the Indian Green Building Council, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and the Fire & Security Association of India also summed up the event favourably. The two exhibitions take place together again next year, when Bangalore hosts Acrex India and fensterbau/frontale india from 23–25 February 2012.
