| fensterbau/frontale india: Promising premiere in New Delhi Two exhibitions took place at the same time in the Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre in India’s capital New Delhi from 24–26 February 2011: the premiere of fensterbau/frontale india, the International Exhibition & Conference Window, Door and Façade, and the refrigeration and air conditioning exhibition ACREX India 2011. Both events approached architects, planners and building experts at the same time with supplementary topics. The 2,975 highly qualified visitors at fensterbau/frontale india ensured satisfaction and many firm orders among the 47 national and international exhibitors, who had come to the premiere in New Delhi from Germany, India, Greece, Turkey, Austria, the United Arab Emirates and the PR of China. India is one of the biggest economies in the world – 1.2 billion people live in an area about nine times larger than Germany. The economy is growing rapidly, with almost one-tenth of the Gross Domestic Product contributed by the building sector alone, which imports many quality products from abroad. Travellers in and around Delhi see new accommodation, residential districts and industrial areas springing up like mushrooms everywhere. Sustainability has also arrived on the subcontinent and a Green Building Council has existed since 2001, although not every new building is already a real “green building”. The constant influx into the megacities will cause the building boom to carry on growing – and thus the challenges. Parallel to fensterbau/frontale india, the internationally renowned German institute ift Rosenheim together with the Indian experts from IFF (International Fenestration Forum) presented a three-day programme of lectures under the heading of “Envelopes for Green Buildings”. The conference programme focused on energy efficiency, shading, security, temperature and sound insulation, and on the special features of the Indian market. Discussions on the conference topics also continued on the stands at fensterbau/frontale india. Incidentally, the number of these stands already clearly exceeded the number of stands at the time of the first fensterbau/frontale in Nürnberg – an obviously good start for the Indian addition to the exhibition family.
