Ferrovial builds Augustow bypass in Poland

Spanish infrastructure firm Ferrovial, through Ferrovial Agroman's Polish subsidiary Budimex, has signed a contract with Poland's General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways to build the Augustow bypass, connecting national road 8 to highway S61, in north-eastern Poland.

The contract, for 36 kilometers of road, is worth over 133 million euro (536.9 million zlotys). The new bypass, scheduled for inauguration in 2014, will ease traffic through Augustow, which is currently very intense because of the city's proximity to the borders with Lithuania and Belarus.

Budimex will build a first section consisting of 23 km of national road 8 (one lane each way). It will also build 13 kilometers of dual carriageway to extend highway S61. The company will also design and build interchanges at the towns of Augustow, Borki, Janowka, Szkocja y Lotnisko; 33 bridges over the rivers Kamienny, Brod, Rospuda, Zalewianka, Gleboka and Szczebelka; as well as 15 viaducts, among other infrastructures.
