| Perth to Geraldton fibre optic link now complete Stephen Conroy, Australia's minister for broadband, communications and the digital economy, marked the completion of the 449 kilometre Perth to Geraldton fibre backbone link. The link forms part of the Gillard Government's $250 million Regional Backbone Blackspots Program, which is delivering 6,000 kilometres of fibre backbone across regional Australia, benefitting around 400,000 people. Senator Conroy said WA provider Westnet, a wholly owned subsidiary of major internet service provider iiNet, is now accessing the new fibre backbone and offering faster ADSL2+ services, and cheaper prices for existing products. Labor Senator for Western Australia Louise Pratt joined Senator Conroy to mark the completion of work in Geraldton and said the new fibre optic link would strengthen Australia's bid to host the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
