Isolux Corsán wins contract in Gabon

Spanish construction firm Isolux Corsán will be widening its footprint on the African continent, where it runs power projects in seven countries, having just won a new contract from the government of Gabon to electrify 33 rural villages in the north-east of the country, in the provinces of Estuaire and Moyen-Ogooué.

The project will require a capital outlay of €34.6m. Isolux Corsán must complete it within 30 months. It will install 200 kilometres of 20 kV power lines, of which 140 kilometres will run between Kango and Lambaréné and the other 60 kilometres between Bifoun and Ndjolé. As part of the project, it will also build a 225/20 KV substation transformer in Bifoun.

This operation will supply power to over 10.000 villagers in rural areas that currently have no access to electricity. It forms part of the Gabonese government's modernisation plan to encourage economic development in the country and improve the quality of life for its citizens. At present, the electricity access rate in Gabón is roughly 60%, with power reaching 80% of the urban environments and 35% of the rural areas. The government aims to guarantee 100% coverage by 2020.
