Ramboll and BIG architects to design Greenland’s new landmark

Ramboll and BIG architects have won the competition to design Greenland's new National Gallery - a building that will become a Greenlandic national icon.

Greenland's future National Gallery is a spectacular building rooted deeply into the rocky grounds of Tuapannguit, in the outskirts of Nuuk. The Gallery seeks a direct confrontation with Greenland's dramatic nature and topography.

The gallery's main collections will contain the best of Greenlandic art and artistic creation, as well as collections of circumpolar art and foreign art with relevance to the museum's collections. The circumpolar art is to include selected collections of contemporary art from the Sami part of Northern Scandinavia, Arctic Canada, Alaska, and Siberia. The contemporary art collection should also contain a representation of modern art from the Nordic countries.
