| Benita Ferrero-Waldner approved to join Alpine board Spanish building giant Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) has approved the appointment of Benita Ferrero-Waldner, a former European Commissioner, to the Supervisory Board of Alpine – FCC's Central European subsidiary. From 2004 to February 2010, Austrian-born Benita Ferrero-Waldner served as European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy and later as Trade Commissioner. Ferrero-Waldner was formerly Austria's Minister for Foreign Affairs, candidate for the Presidency of Austria in 2004, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Aid, Head of Protocol at the UN and a career diplomat for Austria. In the private sector, Ferrero-Waldner is currently a Director of MunichRe, one of the world's leading reinsurance companies, and a member of the Advisory Board of Architect Norman Foster.
