| DITEC rapid fold-up doors in Verona's new hospital complex The City of Verona's new Surgical Centre was officially opened in the presence of all the Municipal, Provincial and Regional authorities. The statistics for this new hospital complex paint an impressive picture. Imagine over 96,000 m² of usable space; two basement floors, one floor for technical departments, 6 floors above ground, and a heliport. The fabric of the buildings required the use of 5,500 tons of iron reinforcements and 48,000 m³ of reinforced concrete; 170,000 m² of plasterboard walling was laid, along with 50,000 m² of linoleum or PVC floors, 63,000 m² of false ceilings and 6,500 m² of external door sets. 550 tons of ducting for the ventilation system were used, plus 800 km of main electrical cabling, 1,200 km of wiring for lighting and special equipment, and over 1,000 electrical appliances. The facility accommodates one of the largest medical staffs in Europe, with 32 operating rooms including one with NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) equipment. There are 513 beds for ordinary inpatient stays, 96 for intensive care, resuscitation and for the care of heart surgery, neurosurgery, burns and post-transplant patients. The new surgical centre will have 300 doctors, 1,000 other medical staff and 100 administrators. It will also be attended by several hundred students, doctors undertaking specialist training and staff on professional development courses. The total cost of this new surgical centre is a cool € 212,543,195. DITEC has also made its contribution to this new and important facility. Indeed, the entrance for ambulances in the casualty department features two Traffic brand rapid fold-up doors of dimensions 8.20 m x 4.20 m high. The automation of an entrance of such considerable size has been made possible by the Traffic CM model: a rapid door that is robust, secure and always ready for more. It offers unique reliability and security, thanks to its modular counterweight system with rapid semi-automatic reopening, and represents the ideal solution not just for large openings but also in locations affected by wind. Indeed, the casualty building is located next to the Adige river, in an area which is particularly exposed to gusts and squalls. The counter-weight balancing system and the Inverter system, which controls the speed, acceleration and deceleration, combine to ensure superior operating standards. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
