Atkins top female architect chosen for everywoman’s Modern Muse

Val Evans, one of Atkins' most senior female architects, has been chosen as a Modern Muse by the UK's largest women's business community, everywoman. The Modern Muse campaign features 100 inspirational women in a major initiative designed to inspire and engage the next generation of female UK business leaders and entrepreneurs.

Modern Muse is setting out to reach one million young women and girls over the next three years, to inspire and motivate them to look at business careers and entrepreneurship as a way to achieve their dreams. This campaign will help them to aspire to a career in business by communicating stories of real women whose experiences encompass ambition, passion, success and failure, showing that business is fulfilling and can also be fun and rewarding.

With 25 years of worldwide experience in architecture and project management, Val has led projects in the UK, Bulgaria, Croatia, Morocco, Taiwan and Russia. She has won design commissions in challenging developing international markets and is responsible for international business development across Europe, South America, North America, North Africa and Asia. Sectors covered include hotel and leisure, commercial, retail and aviation.

Val is the UK representative of the International Union of Architects (UIA), which is responsible for setting standards of architectural services and practices globally, an active member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) large practice forum, and a guest speaker at Kent School of Architecture. She has previously spoken at Oxford Brookes University. In her spare time, she sails with the Women in Property all-women sailing crew, winning several trophies in the Little Britain Challenge Cup.
