Ramboll Urbanisation Event in Copenhagen

The city is the place where the great advances occur – intellectual, technological and also organisational. You need urbanisation if you're going to get development. Urbanisation is a basic precondition for development. But it doesn't of itself guarantee development. Managing urban growth so that it contributes positively to economic advance, reconciling it with ecologically climate sustainable forms of development and reducing social exclusion, currently represents a key societal challenge around the world.

To set focus on some of the key opportunities and solutions related to urbanisation, Ramboll is hosting the Urbanisation Event 2010 on 2 December 2010 at Ramboll Head Office in Copenhagen. The event will highlight how cities are responding to global development challenges such as climate change, energy efficiency, and economic development in an innovative way.

The event will include four keynote speaker presentations:

* Frank Jensen, Lord Mayor, City of Copenhagen: Copenhagen 2025 - The world's first CO2 neutral capital
* Dr Cathy Garner, Chief Executive Officer, Manchester Knowledge Capital: Transforming Manchester through innovation
* Bjarke Ingels, Architect, BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group: Future cities – A global vision
* Dr Shelia Evans Tranum, former Associate Commissioner for the New York State Education Department: Creating liveable cities through performance management

During the afternoon, there will be a selection of master class sessions:

* Designing future cities by Bjarke Ingels, Architect, BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group
* Creating efficient and sustainable energy supplies by Hans Jørgen Koch, Deputy State Secretary at the Danish Ministry of Climate and Energy
* Performance Management by former Associate Commissioner Shelia Evans-Tranumn and Ramboll management consultant Nicolaj Ejler
* Future City Game facilitated by Neil McInroy, Chief Executive, Centre for Local Economic Strategies

The facilitator will be Alex Wong, Senior Director and Head of Center for Global Industries at World Economic Forum.
