ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth $32 million from Powergrid Corporation of India limited (PGCIL) to construct two transmission substations, to be located in the cities of Gwalior and Indore in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

ABB's turnkey project scope includes the design, engineering, supply and commissioning of the 765 kilovolt (kV) and 400 kV air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substations. Major equipment supplied will include circuit breakers, current transformers, capacitive voltage transformers, protection equipment including surge arrestors as well as IEC 61850 compliant substation automation, control and protection systems.

The substations are being developed under the ATS (associated transmission system) scheme to support the 4,000 MW Sasan ultra mega power project, strengthening the regional transmission network in western India.
