Lafarge to support the new Chinese architecture

French cement giant Lafarge has partnered with Architecture Studio to launch a contest dedicated to Chinese architects. This will enable three young winners to present their work at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The prize-giving was held at the French Architecture Academy, attended by Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former French Prime Minister, Senator and Chairman of the Fondation Prospective et Innovation, Ma She, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Ambassador to France, and Franck Hammoutène, Chairman of the Architecture Academy.

Architecture Studio launched the competition to promote Chinese architecture and its young talents in the West in the prestigious context of the Venice Architecture Biennale, organized this year with the theme "People meet in Architecture". The winning projects will go on show at Ca'Asi, Architecture Studio's art collective in Venice, from 25th September to 21st November.

The competition was a great success among Chinese architects, with 150 entries received. Following deliberation, the judges selected 11 architects or teams of architects - three winners, a special mention and seven mentions - whose work covers a wide range of contemporary architectural issues. The three winners are:

* 1st prize: Dong Gong (Vector Architects) from Beijing, for the "Encountering the Memory" project located in Hefei
* 2nd price: Liu Yichun & Chen Yifeng (Atelier Deshaus) from Shanghai, for the Qinpu Youth Center and Kindergarden of Jiading New Town projects
* 3rd prize: Wang Zhenfei (HHD - Fun Architectural Design) from Beijing, for projects such as the "Double Infinity" installation and the "YJP Administrative Center".
