NCC to build climate-smart apartments outside Stockholm

NCC Construction Sweden has been commissioned to build 269 new rental apartments in Ursvik, Sundbyberg, outside Stockholm. The apartments will be climate-smart with environment-friendly material and green electricity. The client is Fastighets AB Förvaltaren and the order is worth SEK 290 million.

The buildings will be constructed as low-energy buildings, with environment-friendly materials, green electricity, green heating and source-sorting facilities in each building. Electricity and water will be measured individually in each apartment, which will facilitate control of energy consumption.

A total of 269 apartments will be built, from two-room to five-room units, with the main focus on the smaller apartments. All apartments will have a balcony or terrace.

Ursvik is the largest housing project in the Greater Stockholm area since construction of Hammarby Sjöstad commenced in the early 1990s. Although construction at Ursvik comprises primarily tenant-owner apartments and row houses, rental apartments will now also be built. Ursvik will have 4,500 residential units and a similar number of workplaces when completed.

Construction will commence in early September 2010 and the first apartments will be ready for tenants in autumn 2012.
