EnergyEdge system from CertainTeed

The EnergyEdge system supplied by CertainTeed Corporation offers homeowners an easy, new way to boost the energy efficiency of their homes. The system consists of insulated rails that are installed around the exposed slab edge or foundation wall of the home. Since the majority of homes were built prior to 2003, when new building codes called for foundation insulation, the EnergyEdge system provides a much-needed tool for homeowners looking to reduce their monthly energy bill.

"Ten percent or more of a home's energy loss can come from an un-insulated foundation, and 60 percent of that loss occurs in the foundation's top 8-inches. Adding insulation to the slab edge or foundation wall offers an incredible return on investment," says Keith Reifke, national sales and business manager for CertainTeed's Pipe & Foundations business. "In fact, homeowners can recoup up to $200 a year in heating costs by adding the EnergyEdge system, which also qualifies for the federal energy tax credit."

The EnergyEdge system features PVC rails with expanded polystyrene insulation (EPS) that snap onto braces. Homeowners can apply the system to the exposed slab edge or other exposed foundation of their home, or have a professional contractor install the system. The rails are available in 12-foot lengths and can be cut using standard building tools. The EnergyEdge system provides a R-10 thermal resistance value and meets 2009 International Energy Conservation Code requirements.

The EnergyEdge product line includes a number of other products for use in new and retrofit building insulation applications.
