First sod turned on stage 2 of new Marysville community centre

Work on the second stage of a new community centre for the people of Marysville in Victoria kicked off today at a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Victorian Minister for Health Daniel Andrews, Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund, Pat McNamara, representatives of Murrindindi Shire Council and the Community Recovery Committee, and Bovis Lend Lease representatives.

The Marysville Community Centre project will provide essential education, childcare, health and other services to aide the community's recovery after the devastation of the February 2009 bushfires. It will become an important facility for local community and sporting groups and a new focal point for the town.

Bovis Lend Lease has been appointed by Murrindindi Shire Council and the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority to oversee a two-year reconstruction program across Murrindindi Shire.

The program includes a number of key projects underway in the Marysville and Triangle area, the redevelopment of Murchison Street and the town centre, as well as drainage improvements and restoration works at Gallipoli Park.
