Symphony Composite Slate Shingles meet Canadian building code

As a result of rigorous testing, the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) has confirmed that CertainTeed's Symphony Composite Slate Shingles meet Canadian building code requirements. The approval helps Canadian building professionals expand their product offering to include an easy-to-install alternative to natural slate shingles. "Symphony provides homeowners and building professionals in Canada with the natural beauty and tooled craftsmanship of true slate without the hassles," says Bob Gardiner, vice president of marketing for CertainTeed Roofing. "The shingles also have excellent weathering capabilities for Canada's colder seasons, with resistance to curling or buckling, and Symphony is ideal for replacing roofing on historic homes, churches and other architectural landmarks."

The report provides impartial and technical comment on innovative products and broadens the resources available to Canadian building professionals tasked with creating environmentally sound and sustainable buildings. In addition, the report approves Symphony as a roofing product in compliance with the National Building Code of Canada and the National Research Council Canada.

Symphony mimics the look and feel of natural slate shingles, in a lighter, more durable option at a fraction of the price. Available in 12-inch pre-blended bundles or multiple-width bundles of 6-, 9- and 12-inch slates, Symphony's colour palette includes Evergreen, Colonial Gray and Capital Blend, which provide new ways of achieving graduated and random patterns. In addition, the shingles are shipped in pre-blended pallets, so contractors won't have to spend time sorting colours at the jobsite and can begin installing the roof more quickly. Symphony can be installed in temperatures as low as -9 degrees Celsius, an ideal match for Canada's colder climates. The shingles also feature a UV fade-resistant surface technology for superior colour stability and are backed by CertainTeed's legacy of quality and innovation, as well as a 50-year limited, transferable warranty.

Symphony is ENERGY STAR -rated, a label given to products that use less energy, save money and help protect the environment, and helps building professionals meet the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED requirements and other green building programs.

Backed by cutting edge service and support from CertainTeed, Canadian building professionals can "Be Certain" about partnering with a company that provides time-tested, innovative products designed with a commitment to sustainability from beginning to end. CertainTeed has a well-established network of gypsum and finishing plants in Canada, newly acquired Canadian insulation facilities and a number of northern U.S. roofing, ceilings and fiber cement plants that are well positioned to service the Canadian market with consistent service and high-quality products.
