FCC will be an official sponsor of the Solar Decathlon Europe

Baldomero Falcones, Chairman and CEO of FCC, and Beatriz Corredor, Spain's Minister for Housing, signed an agreement under which the company joins the Solar Decathlon Europe competition as a sponsor.

By sponsoring the Solar Decathlon Europe, FCC acknowledges the initiative's importance and is willing to assist with publicising the 2010 edition of the competition, as well as assisting directly or indirectly in the implementation, promotion and dissemination of the event while linking its corporate image to the competition.

Solar Decathlon Europe is a competition between university teams that is organised by Spain's Ministry for Housing in cooperation with Madrid Polytechnic University and with the support of the US Department of Energy. Participating teams must design and build a house that is self-sufficient in energy terms, uses only solar energy and incorporates technologies that maximise energy efficiency. The final phase of the competition is in Madrid, alongside the Manzanares river, between the Puente del Rey and Puente de Segovia bridges, from 17 to 27 June.

Recognising its strategic importance, the Spanish government recognised the Solar Decathlon Europe as an "event of exceptional public interest" in an additional provision to the Central Government Budget 2010 Act. This enables the competition sponsors to qualify for company tax breaks under Spain's Sponsorship Act.
