Graham-Flatiron jv awarded Saskatoon’s Circle Drive project

The City of Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, Canada, awarded a contract to the joint venture of Graham Construction and Flatiron to build the massive Circle Drive South project, the largest single project in the city's history and its first design-build contract. Circle Drive is a major road constructed as a ring road in Saskatoon.

The Graham-Flatiron bid of $224 million includes work on the new south bridge, seven kilometers (4.3 miles) of freeway from Clarence Avenue to Clancy Drive, four railway grade separations, sound walls and utility relocation. The proposed roadway will be a four to six lane divided freeway, with provisions for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the river and access to recreation trails on both sides of the South Saskatchewan River.

Construction is expected to begin this spring and completed in the fall of 2012. Once completed, the new bridge and freeway are expected to improve efficiency for shippers to connect with national and international trade routes, at that same time reducing congestion by nearly 35 percent and improving safety. The project is funded through various entities including the province, Canadian federal government, and the City of Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan is the third western Canadian province, along with British Columbia and Alberta, in which Flatiron has secured a variety of transportation infrastructure work.
