| PERI GRIDFLEX Slab Formwork: award for new safety concept  At the bauma in Munich, the world´s largest construction machinery fair, the GRIDFLEX aluminum girder grid slab formwork system from PERI was awarded the EuroTest Prize. The EuroTest Prize is awarded in honour of outstanding achievements by companies, organizations and individuals in the field of occupational safety and machine safety. The PERI GRIDFLEX slab formwork "Increases productivity but along with ensuring a significant increase of health and safety levels in the workplace", according to the international committee when giving the reason for the award. The following is the complete text used at the EuroTest Prize award ceremony for the PERI GRIDFLEX slab formwork with the accessible girder grid: Accidents due to falling, in particular during formworking operations, are still a major accident factor. With new working technologies the focus has frequently been on increasing productivity. The GRIDFLEX slab formwork increases the productivity as well but also ensures a significant increase of health and safety levels in the workplace. Due to the safe installation procedure of the GRIDFLEX slab formwork with all assembly operations taking place from below, including the fitting of the mandatory guardrails for the open slab edges, work safety has been integrated into the design of the system. In addition, the system takes into consideration the increasing demands placed by owners and architects regarding the forming of the slab underside. Compared to conventional slab formwork elements, the assembly procedure was greatly simplified. Apart from the colour coding and the constructionally pre-determined systematic assembly sequence, the low dead weight of 10 kg/m˛ in particular made assembly much easier. With other features such as telescopic filler elements for longitudinal and transverse compensation, propheads with an integrated spring mechanism (pins and bolts are no longer required) as well as a stacking pallet for easy storage and transportation acceptance in the field is increased. PERI GRIDFLEX slab formwork thus integrates health and safety at work in the assembly process whilst simultaneously increasing the productivity. For this exemplary implementation of integral occupational health and safety, the company PERI, from Weissenhorn in Germany, has been awarded the EuroTest Prize 2010.
