| Hochtief subsidiaries win contracts in the USA and Australia Hochtief subsidiaries have won contracts worth approximately EUR 474 million in Australia and the USA. An alliance involving Leighton Contractors, a Group company of Hochtief's Australian subsidiary Leighton, has been awarded a construction contract by rail operator Queensland Rail. The contract volume totals approximately EUR 254 million (AUD 370 million). Leighton Contractors' share is slightly less than EUR 229 million (AUD 333 million). The American Hochtief subsidiary Turner, the No. 1 in the growing US healthcare market, is further strengthening its leading market position: The company is to build a new hospital in San Jose, California, for almost EUR 220 million (USD 300 million). Turner will take on construction management for this project. The contract in Queensland includes EUR 49 million (AUD 68 million) previously allocated to the Alliance in 2008 to commence earthworks of the project. The rail link's expansion by December 2011 is to step up the capacity for coal transportation in the Australian state. The hospital in California will have 168 beds and is designed to achieve LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council. Turner will start the works in summer this year, with completion scheduled for 2012. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
