| Fluor executes agreement for South Texas Project nuclear expansion Fluor Corp announced that the company's affiliate, Fluor NE, signed a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) with the Building and Construction Trades Department (BCTD) of the AFL-CIO to provide skilled union labor to construct the two new nuclear units at the South Texas Project (STP) near Bay City, Texas. Fluor NE executed the PLA at a signing ceremony in Washington D.C. STP's two new reactors are being developed by Nuclear Innovation North America LLC (NINA), the nuclear development company jointly owned by NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) and Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation (TANE), a U.S. subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation and the prime contractor for the STP expansion. Fluor is TANE's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) subcontractor for the STP expansion. Approximately 6,000 workers will be required to build the two new units, STP 3 & 4, which are located about 100 miles southwest of Houston. Construction of the new units is expected to begin in 2012 once the expansion receives its Combined License from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and should last five years with STP 3 coming online in 2016 and STP 4 in 2017. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
