CedarBoards Board & Batten recreates the historic charm

A long-standing and deep-rooted design tradition, Board & Batten siding has been used as far back as the 1800s to protect and beautify homes and barns. CertainTeed Corporation is pleased to give today's building professionals the same rustic cedar look with the benefit of increased energy efficiency and enhanced durability by adding a Board & Batten profile to its popular line of CedarBoards Insulated Siding. CedarBoards Board & Batten insulated siding alternates wide and narrow vertical vinyl panels to create a simple design for a variety of architectural styles. The siding has a 10-inch board and 2-inch batten, the industry's widest vinyl board span – and features an even, flat-face board design replicating the look of true cedar board in an easy care, low maintenance material.

"Ideal for whole-house or accent applications, CedarBoards Board & Batten recreates the historic charm of early American structures," says Phyllis Vail, director of marketing communications for CertainTeed's Siding Products Group. "In addition, its custom-contoured foam backing helps increase the overall thermal performance of a wall, improves exterior wall strength and impact resistance, and reduces exterior noise, giving homeowners the perfect balance of a hard-working and timeless-looking siding."

Backed with a 1/2-inch of expanded polystyrene insulation (EPS), CedarBoards Board & Batten improves the energy efficiency of a home by insulating continuously over framing where energy loss is greatest. It also helps to meet stringent performance guidelines of an ENERGY STAR -qualified new home. CedarBoards Board & Batten features CertainTeed's exclusive authentic TrueTexture rough cedar texture and is available in 12 low-gloss colors with a wide variety of coordinating trim products.

Available in 10-foot lengths, CedarBoards Board & Batten has a .052-inch thick panel and its straight-edged batten provides a sharp, carpentered look, as well as a 5/8-inch height for dramatic shadow lines. It also requires no painting, caulking, contains no harsh chemicals, heavy metals or phthalates, all of which contributes to the sustainability and low maintenance of any project. CedarBoards Board & Batten has a Class 1(A) fire rating and is backed by a lifetime limited warranty with CertainTeed's PermaColor Lifetime Fade Protection.
