URS designing improvements for San Diego International Airport

URS Corp, as a subcontractor to the Kiewit/Sundt design/build team, is designing the landside improvements in front of Terminal 2 for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.

Also known as the Green Build, the project is being performed under two design-build contracts. It includes the expansion of Terminal 2 West and associated airside and landside improvements at San Diego Airport.

The URS subcontract calls for the design of the landside improvements, consisting of a second-level roadway across from the terminal, an automated departure curb known as a "Smart Curb" that will allow passenger check-in before entering the terminal, two pedestrian bridges, six roadway bridges, a baggage tunnel, and USO and parking management facilities.

The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2013.
