| Turner to provide services for Wizards future home in Kansas City Turner Construction Company, the U.S.'s largest builder of sports facilities, has been selected by OnGoal, LLC, the ownership group of Major League Soccer's Kansas City Wizards, to provide pre-construction and construction services on a $160 million stadium to serve as the Wizards future home in Kansas City, Kan. Construction is underway and completion is scheduled for the summer of 2011. The 365,000 sq. ft., 18,000-seat stadium will be located at the Village West retail development and adjacent to the Kansas Speedway. The facility will be a multi-use venue to accommodate Major League Soccer games and other field sports. In addition, the stadium will host concerts for up to 27,000 people. An ascending spiral roof canopy will cover all seating. The stadium will also feature 34 suites and a bluegrass natural turf playing field that will include a SubAir heating and moisture management system. The future home of the Wizards represents the fourth Major League Soccer-specific stadium Turner has constructed, more than any other builder. Turner also managed the construction of Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids; Rio Tinto Stadium for ReAL Salt Lake; and Toyota Park, home of the Chicago Fire. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
