| Fluor secures contract in Australia and Spain Fluor Corp announced that its joint venture with Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) was awarded a contract by BHP Billiton to execute the next phase of its Rapid Growth Program. The focus of the project will be the continued expansion of BHP Billiton's iron ore operations in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. Fluor booked approximately $500 million in the company's fourth quarter of 2009. Fluor also announced that Elecnor S.A. has awarded the company an engineering services contract for a new 50 megawatt (MW) concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in Badajoz, Spain. Fluor will provide detailed engineering and other associated services for the project. When complete, the 50 MW CSP generating facility will capture solar energy using parabolic trough mirrors and will ultimately convert the energy into electricity through a steam turbine generator. The project is underway with engineering expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2011. Fluor's Asturias and Madrid, Spain, operations will lead the engineering effort with support from its southern California operations center. Fluor has been providing front-end support work to Elecnor for this project since early in 2009. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
