| Schindler to supply escalators for LA International airport Swiss elevator and escalator maker Schindler has been awarded a $40 million (CHF 43 million) contract to supply 70 escalators, elevators and moving walks for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The new installations are part of a major modernization program at LAX, which includes new gates to accommodate the Airbus A380, as well as a refurbishment of the airport's terminals, including the main Tom Bradley International Terminal. As part of the $40 million contract, awarded by the airport operator Los Angeles World Airports, Schindler will remove and replace 60 escalators and four moving walks, as well as modernize six hydraulic passenger elevators. A total of 285 escalators, elevators and moving walks will eventually be modernized at LAX – the world's sixth busiest airport - as part of the overall modernization.
