Schindler to supply escalators for LA International airport

Swiss elevator and escalator maker Schindler has been awarded a $40 million (CHF 43 million) contract to supply 70 escalators, elevators and moving walks for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The new installations are part of a major modernization program at LAX, which includes new gates to accommodate the Airbus A380, as well as a refurbishment of the airport's terminals, including the main Tom Bradley International Terminal.

As part of the $40 million contract, awarded by the airport operator Los Angeles World Airports, Schindler will remove and replace 60 escalators and four moving walks, as well as modernize six hydraulic passenger elevators.

A total of 285 escalators, elevators and moving walks will eventually be modernized at LAX – the world's sixth busiest airport - as part of the overall modernization.

Schindler provides mobility in many of the world's major airports and public transport networks; recent contracts include: London-Heathrow Terminal 5, Germany's new Berlin-Brandenburg International airport, as well as new completely new subway systems for Mumbai, India, and the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey.
