BSEC 2010: Pathfinder primary school shows way forward

Philip Watson, head of education at Atkins, is set to speak at BSEC 2010 about Atkins' design for Northwood Primary school in Darlington, County Durham, one of the pathfinders for the Primary Capital Programme.

Northwood Primary School, a £6.5m regional pathfinder for Darlington Borough Council, has been transformed from vision into reality after opening its doors to students for the first time at the start of spring term 2010.

Designed by Atkins with input from its staff, pupils and the local community, the new school's unique shape and glass fronted entrance boldly expresses its openness as a building for the public and pupils alike.

Philip will be speaking at 2.30pm at the Primary Capital Programme seminar on day two of the BSEC conference, Thursday 25th February. He will be joined by David Ackroyd, head teacher for Northwood Primary and Brian Dobinson, Head of Building Design Services for Darlington Borough Council, to discuss the project's approach to sustainability, planning and procurement.
