| Shaw receives Contractor Superior Safe Performance Award The Shaw Group Inc. announced it has been awarded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 2009 Contractor Superior Safe Performance Award. Shaw received this award in the large business category for its exemplary safety performance with environmental remediation work targeting radioactive contamination from former atomic weapons programs at St. Louis District Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) project sites. Since August 2002, Shaw has performed 1.48 million hours of work at the FUSRAP projects without a single recordable accident under the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration reporting standard, with more than 162, 000 of those hours performed in 2009 primarily at the St. Louis Downtown Site and the St. Louis North County Sites. The national average for related work is 19 recordable accidents per 1 million hours worked. This is the second time that Shaw has been recognized with the Contractor Superior Safe Performance Award from the Corps. In 2007, Shaw was honored with both the St. Louis Corps district award and the Mississippi Valley Division's regional award, which is selected from the division's six district winners. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
