| Two-component, polyurethane sealant Chem-Calk 505 Bostik Inc.'s Construction & Industrial (C&I) Business Unit has developed Chem-Calk 505, a new, two-component, polyurethane sealant for vertical and horizontal commercial construction applications. The non-sag, architectural-grade formulation is designed to seal expansion and control joints in precast concrete construction and metal curtain walls, as well as the perimeters of door and window frames and other building components. Replacing Chem-Calk 500, the innovative Chem-Calk 505 offers upgrades in its ease of mixing and tooling, as well as property improvements in hardness, modulus and tensile strength. Chem-Calk 505 also delivers improved handling thanks to its consistent viscosity over a broad temperature spectrum. Just as important, the Chem-Calk 505 Green Formulation delivers all of these upgrades while being one-third lighter (4.9 pounds less per gallon) than its predecessor. "Chem-Calk 505 is solvent free, yet maintains excellent adhesion to concrete and other building materials," says James Downing, Bostik C&I Market Manager - Construction Products. "With Chem-Calk 505, we were able to engineer a true Green Formulation, while improving all of the sealant's key properties. Chem-Calk 505 meets the strict testing requirements of ASTM C920, Class 25, Use T, and U.S. Green Building guidelines." Available immediately, Chem-Calk 505 comes in convenient, lightweight 1.5-gallon plastic pails featuring easy zip-strip opening. Its predecessor came in metal pails. Another key upgrade with Chem-Calk 505 is its Flex-Pak Colorants used to expand the color palette available to contractors utilizing a flexible packaging design. "No more pouring colorants from 8-ounce plastic cups, " says Kurt Zintner, Bostik Technical Service Manager - Construction Sealants & Adhesives. "Chem-Calk 505 makes coordinating building material colors easier than ever. Its Flex-Pak Colorants squeezable packets are easier to open, use, transport and dispose of." Chem-Calk 505 has a smooth, creamy consistency that is easy to mix and gun, and its physical properties remain stable over time - even under severe weather conditions. "The development of Chem-Calk 505 marks yet another contractor-driven green building innovation by Bostik," Downing adds. "We refuse to rest on our laurels." write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Construction News :: home page |
