| Taylor Woodrow/BAM Nuttall upgrade Tottenham Court Road station A 50/50 joint venture between BAM Nuttall Ltd and Taylor Woodrow (part of Vinci Construction UK) has been awarded a contract in the region of £250 million by Transport for London (TfL) to upgrade Tottenham Court Road tube station. The station will be enlarged to provide twice the capacity than at present, including a ticket hall almost six times the size of the existing one. New station entrances, modernisation of the existing station passageways and platforms and a new concourse with links to Tottenham Court Road station will be provided to reduce congestion. Additional escalators and five lifts will provide step free access throughout the station as well as conventional stair access. New staff accommodation will be located beneath Charing Cross Road. A new Crossrail Eastern ticket hall structure is also included in the scope of the contract. Construction is due to begin in early 2010. The programme will take 80 months with a view to completion by September 2016. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
