Baker a partner in team for expansion of I-15 Corridor in Utah

Michael Baker Corp announced that Fluor-HDR Design Consultants LLC is the lead designer to Provo River Constructors, a Fluor-led joint venture that has been selected by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) as the team with the best fixed price, best design proposal for the expansion of the I-15 Corridor Reconstruction project. Michael Baker Jr., Inc., the company's engineering unit, is a subcontractor to Fluor-HDR Design. The total design-build contract value is estimated to be $1.1 billion.

The proposed scope of reconstruction work is along a 23-mile stretch of the existing interstate in Utah County which is the major north-south commuter route between Salt Lake City and the Provo/Orem region in Utah. The project includes adding 4 lanes to the freeway, rebuilding and reconfiguring 10 freeway interchanges, replacing and restoring 55 bridges, and providing additional improvements that will meet or exceed travel demands through the year 2030 to facilitate increased mobility and safety. Design work on the project is expected to begin immediately, with construction to commence in spring 2010 with completion expected as early as December 2012.
