Impregilo builds a hydroelectric plant in Columbia

Italy's largest construction firm Impregilo, lead contractor with a 60% stake in a consortium including Columbian companies Conalvias and Tecnica Vial, has been awarded the tender to build a hydroelectric plant on the river Sogamoso in north-western Columbia, about 40 kilometres from the city of Bucaramanga.

The project, worth approximately 345 million euro, involves the construction of a dam 190 metres high and 300 metres long, as well as the underground power station that will house three turbines totalling 820 MW of installed power.

Impregilo is already carrying out preliminary work for the dam, which involves the building of two diversion tunnels of some 870 metres in length and 11 metres in diameter and the system of access tunnels and roads to the underground power station, worth a further 55 million euro.

The tender was awarded by Isagen S.A, a mixed public/private concession holder active in power generation in Columbia.
