Bouygues head office to receive HQE certification

The Bouygues head office at 32 Avenue Hoche, in the eighth arrondissement of Paris, was granted NF Bâtiments Tertiaires en Exploitation – Démarche HQE certification in December 2009. This makes it one of the first office buildings in France to receive this certification, with 12 of the 14 targets graded 'high performance' or 'very high performance'.

This certification rewards the highly commendable use and operation of the building. It is a mark of distinction awarded to buildings operated to HQE standards that correspond to the best current practices of its users in terms of building, monitoring, maintenance and environmental quality. Certification is the logical conclusion to the environmental approach implemented by Bouygues right from the start of design and construction of its new head-office building. In October 2006, by meeting HPE high-energy-efficiency criteria, it became the first office building in Paris to receive HQE certification. Under the terms of this latest certification, the building will be subject to yearly audits to check that the good practices adopted are maintained.

The Bouygues head office is one of the pilot schemes used to develop the new NF Office Building Operation Certification – HQE Approach reference framework. Through its subsidiary Élan (service company specialised in project management), Bouygues has been working since 2007 on this framework together with Certivéa, the certification subsidiary of French building research establishment Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB).

Bouygues has ensured that all the subsidiaries in its construction sector — Bouygues Construction, Bouygues Immobilier, and Colas — are committed to sustainable construction. The Group is thus developing expertise for designing, building, and operating low-energy consumption and positive-energy buildings. It is also working on new concepts for thermal upgrading.
