NCC Construction Sweden has been commissioned to build 140 new tenant-owned apartments in Hässelby Strand, Stockholm. The client is Riksbyggen and the order is worth SEK 167 million. The assignment will be implemented as a partnering project.

The assignment comprises four new residential buildings on Melongatan in Hässelby, which is a perfect location near Lake Mälaren, schools and the subway. Two of the buildings will consist of several one-room and two-room apartments, which are in great demand in the area.

Riksbyggen and NCC have been planning new residences in Hässelby Strand since summer 2007. Construction was delayed due to the recession, but work will now commence in the new Lekrummet property block.

The four buildings will be between five and six floors high. The architect was inspired by Hässelby Strand's residential developments from the 1950s, in the form of elongated buildings and sunny courtyards. The façades will be in warm colors of brown, red, beige and yellow. Many of the apartments will have windows facing several directions and they will all have large balconies or patios. Two of the buildings will mainly comprise three-room and four-room apartments. The remaining two buildings will mainly comprise smaller apartments. An underground parking garage will also be constructed beneath two of the buildings.

The project will be implemented as a partnering project; a structured cooperation format, whereby the developer and contractor jointly resolve construction issues. The method is based on open and reliable cooperation in which the professional skills of the partners complement each other throughout all phases of the project.

Ground work has commenced. The residences will be constructed beginning in February 2010. Sales efforts will commence in March 2010 and it is estimated that tenants will be able to take possession from September 2011. The project will employ a total of 56 persons, including 33 NCC employees.
