| URS awarded top prize for Alabama contractors Rust Constructors, a wholly owned subsidiary of URS Corporation, was awarded first place in the Mega-Projects category of the Excellence in Construction competition of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama. The ABC awards program is a premier competition within the construction industry, recognizing outstanding projects performed by Alabama contractors. The Mega-Projects category of the competition compares all projects, regardless of type, that have a contract value of more than $100 million. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, Rust Constructors was recognized for its work at the Willow Creek Gas Plant owned by Williams Field Services Company, where it provided construction supervision, labor and construction materials to build a gas processing plant. The Willow Creek Gas project is located in the Piceance Basin region of northwest Colorado, which contains large reserves of coal, natural gas and oil shale. The gas plant was built to extract higher-value liquids, such as ethane, propane, butane and gasoline from natural gas. The plant processes approximately 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day for U.S. consumption. The $370 million (total installed cost) Willow Creek project involved a host of challenges, including an aggressive construction schedule of 13 months from start to finish; a remote site location with extreme winter weather conditions; and difficult deliveries of large process equipment on narrow, winding mountain roads. Despite these issues, Rust completed the project safely and on time. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
