Land Securities presented New City Architecture Award

Land Securities was presented with the New City Architecture Award 2009 for its New Street Square development, designed by Bennetts Associates Architects. The annual award is given to the building deemed by the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects to have made the most distinguished contribution to the streetscape of the City of London.

Situated on New Fetter Lane in the heart of the City's Midtown, New Street Square brings together a vibrant mix of innovative office space, shops, restaurants and a bar around a delightful public square and reinstated pedestrian routes. Since opening in December last year, it has revitalised the local area, creating a thriving destination for local workers and Londoners alike.

Award judges singled out New Street Square's successful use of sculpture, lighting and artwork to create a sense of place. The judges described the development as "a very worthy winner" that "provides huge added value to its area, and is a very welcome addition to the City of London."

This latest accolade follows a string of wins for the development, including a 2009 RIBA Award and subsequent inclusion on the Stirling Prize long-list, as well as the Building Services Major Project of the Year Award and Civic Trust Award. New Street Square was also highly commended in the Major Project of the Year category at the recent 2009 Building and Construction Industry Awards.
