Pöyry awarded railway design contract in Poland

Finnish engineering firm Pöyry has been awarded the design contract for the new airport rail link in Katowice, Poland by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. Pöyry's share of the total assignment is EUR 7.5 million.

Pöyry is leading the design consortium with DB International in the project, which includes 38 km of railway line and 28 new structures such as bridges etc. The airport rail link runs from the Katowice airport in Pyrzowice to the centre of Katowice and other cities of the Upper Silesian agglomeration.

The design services will start with a feasibility study, leading over preliminary and building permit design and finally to the tender design including preparation of tender documents. They also contain consulting services during the bidding phase of the contractors. The design phase will last from October 2009 to May 2011 and will also include a complete environmental impact assessment and obtaining of relevant environmental permits.

The project is financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the Polish State budget.
