| Ramboll wins detailed design of Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm Danish engineering group Ramboll have been selected to deliver the detailed design of the wind turbine foundations for stage one of the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm, off the North Wales coast. The contract is for the first phase of foundation design works, and focuses on the first 92 foundations which form part of the more extensive Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, one of the largest round 2 offshore wind farms to be consented in the UK. In December 2008, the UK Government's Department of Energy and Climate Change gave consent to RWE power renewables to construct an offshore wind farm with an installed capacity of up to 750MW. When completed the wind farm will be capable of producing power for up to 500,000 homes (equivalent to 40% of the homes in Wales) and thereby prevent the release of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of polluting carbon dioxide gas. The Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm is owned by RWE npower renewables, the UK subsidiary of German utility RWE, which is one of the top five Integrated European Utilities. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
