Aker Solutions awarded contract in Suriname

Norway's engineering firm Aker Solutions has been awarded the project management consultant (PMC) contract for Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V.'s refinery expansion project in Suriname. Once completed, the project will double the refinery's processing capacity to 15 000 barrels per day, producing diesel, gasoline, fuel oil, bitumen and sulphuric acid.

Aker Solutions' operations in Houston, US will manage the overall PMC contract. Support will come from its Zoetermeer office in The Netherlands, providing the validation of an extended Front End Design phase 3 package under preparation by other contractors.

Staatsolie is the State Oil Company of Suriname, which is located in Northern South America, facing the Atlantic Ocean between British Guyana, French Guiana, and Brazil.

The initial phase of the PMC programme is scheduled for completion during third quarter of 2010. The refinery expansion is scheduled to be completed in spring of 2013.
