Mott MacDonald to develop Crossrail

UK-based engineering and consulting giant Mott MacDonald has recently been awarded several new design contracts worth a total of around £10 million to help develop Crossrail, one of the biggest and most complex rail projects in the world.

The largest package awarded to Mott MacDonald builds on the initial sprayed concrete lining designs already completed by the Mott MacDonald tunnelling team through Multi Disciplinary Consultancy package 3 (MDC3) and will involve producing detailed designs for such linings throughout the whole Crossrail tunnel system. Sprayed concrete lining of tunnels is a specialised way of coating the inside of tunnels that has several benefits.

Mott MacDonald has also been appointed to develop designs for the Paddington Integration Project (C131) which will provide a coordinated scheme for the north side of Paddington Station and include a new station entrance fronting Paddington Basin, complete redevelopment of the Hammersmith and City Station, a new taxi facility and provision for an over-site development.

Mott MacDonald has also just been awarded major engineering design contracts 124 for aerodynamics and ventilation design, 125 for all tunnel mechanical and electrical design and 162 for signalling.
