Innovation on inner-city road and sewage work

Extending or renewing road or infrastructure networks in cities, local authority areas and communities is currently one of the biggest challenges in the construction industry. There are good reasons why so much funding is directed into this area of construction activity. BOMAG is displaying a wealth of innovation at NordBau 2009 from 10 to 15 September providing effective answers on how to implement these sometimes complex projects. Speed, mobility and performance are the most important requirements for inner-city road and sewage work to prevent traffic disruption, meet tight schedules, and create the minimum disturbance to residents.

To start, there are three world product launches in the BOMAG Light Equipment range: the showpiece being the new BMP 8500 multipurpose compactor with articulated steering. This model has been especially designed for use on earthworks and is particularly suited to the compaction of cohesive soils in trench work, sewage and pipeline construction plus subbases and foundations.

Other firsts include two ranges of single-direction vibratory plates: BOMAG BP and BVP plates. Typical applications for both ranges are patching work on roads and paths, pipeline construction and gardening and landscaping. Visitors to NordBau can look forward to seeing these new solutions and benefits for contractors in the BOMAG Light Equipment sector.

The new BW 154 ACP combination roller with ASPHALT MANAGER (the BOMAG system for automatic compaction optimisation) will also be launched for the first time in Germany. The BW 154 ACP AM is a flexible pivot steered roller in the 7 t class with a small turning radius and weight ideal for small to medium-sized construction sites, such as inner-city roadworks or the construction of agricultural haul roads.

The unit produces uniform compaction and good surface sealing from the rolling and kneading effect of the tyres. Extra wide tyres are used, and ensure maximum surface coverage with reduced gaps between the tyres. The larger tyre diameter increases the evenness of the laid material, and high wheel loads of over 900 kg per tyre produce efficient compaction.

In addition to these product innovations, there will of course be the opportunity to see a cross section of the entire BOMAG range. This includes the new BF 300 finisher, a BW 213 single drum roller with polygonal drum, a BW 120 tandem roller with full options and the complete Light Equipment range. Not to be missed are the reversible plate models fitted with the BOMAG ECONOMIZER measuring and control system, which can help save up to 25% on passes.
