Low alloy, metal cored electrodes for joining high strength steels

Select-Arc, Inc. has introduced two premium metal cored, low alloy steel electrodes that are excellent choices for joining low alloy, high strength steels. Select 100C-K3 is intended for single and multiple pass welding of some carbon and certain low alloy steels, where a minimum tensile strength of 100,000 psi is required in the deposited weld metal; Select 110C-K4 for applications where 110,000 psi is needed. They have been specifically developed to operate with conventional Ar/CO2 shielding gas mixtures (75-95% argon) which improve penetration and sidewall fusion.

Both electrodes exhibit superb welder appeal and outstanding mechanical properties. They offer many advantages over solid wires including increased productivity due to faster travel speeds, enhanced sidewall fusion which eliminates "cold-lap" and minimal tendency for subsurface porosity. Each electrode is well suited for applications where the slag residue and fume emissions produced by flux cored wires are unwanted.

Select 100C-K3 is ideally designed for joining low alloy, high strength steels such as HY-80, A719 and A514 in applications which include shipbuilding, earthmoving equipment, mining machinery and many others. Select 110C-K4 joins steels such as HY-100 and A514 and is well suited for welding in demanding applications like earthmoving equipment, mining trucks and machinery and heavy equipment trailers.

Both electrodes are available in .035", .045", .052" and 1/16" diameters. The smaller diameters for these electrodes can be used in all position welding by utilizing pulsed power or short arc transfer.
