Corus provides the total solution for Loughborough students

Corus Panels and Profiles, part of the metal producer Corus, has secured a contract to supply 1000m2 of Trisomet - its innovative new steel roofing system - to deliver a £5million Unite student accommodation scheme at Loughborough University. Bringing university accommodation into the 21st Century for Loughborough students, the scheme involves the refurbishment of, and extension to, an existing Victorian structure to provide 61 modern studios, comprising 42 standard studio units and 18 bed deck studio units in a single block.

Steve Lester, Managing Director, Lester Fabrications comments: "Like any student accommodation facility, the development required a durable and low maintenance roofing system coupled with a high quality finish. A high performance robust building envelope solution, Corus' Trisomet 333 system lends itself to such a project by eliminating the risk of interstitial condensation, ensuring thermal performance and achieving low air permeability. In addition, the wide trough design of the external trapezoidal skin of the system provides the client with the re-assurance of optimum performance for water drainage."

Manufactured in factory-controlled conditions, Trisomet 333 is a robust, made to measure insulated roofing and wall system that can be installed quickly and efficiently, bringing significant time and cost savings to any construction programme. Ideally suited for fast track projects, Trisomet 333 can also help achieve a high BREEAM rating on many projects due to it featuring a PIR insulation foam core which has zero ozone depletion potential and an extremely low global warming potential of less than 5.

Mark Clemson, Commercial Director – Building Envelope, Corus Panels and Profiles comments: "Key to the success of this project was the ability to deliver a finished structure that maintained and enhanced the historical and architectural integrity of the original Victorian building. Applying Corus unique coating formulation - Colorcoat Verso in Merlin Grey – to the Trisomet 333 used on the roof ensured the overall appearance of the roof architecturally complimented and blended with the surrounding environment."

The new Unite student accommodation at Loughborough University is sited on Greenclose Lane and is part of the building known as Schofield Building.
