| Sacyr Vallehermoso-led consortium expects to award ACP contract Grupo Unidos por el Canal, comprising Sacyr Vallehermoso as leader and Impregilo (Italy), Jan de Nul (Belgium) and Constructora Urbana (Panama) has presented the best offer for the design and construction of the third set of locks of the Panama Canal, the main component of the Expansion as determined by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). The consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal garnered the highest score for its combined technical and price score. The ACP has reported that it expects to award the contract in the following days. The third set of locks project is a plan to expand the Canal's capacity composed of three integrated components: (1) the construction of two lock facilities – one on the Atlantic side and another on the Pacific side – each with three chambers, each which include three water reutilization basins; (2) the excavation of new access channels to the new locks and the widening of existing navigational channels; and, (3) the deepening of the navigation channels and the elevation of Gatun Lake's maximum operating level. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
