Idea of glass as a fragile material is a thing of the past

Cristal Pontevedresa is a flat tempered-glass manufacturer in north-west Spain. This material, registered under the Temperedglass trade mark, has a resistance that is between 4 and 6 times higher than that of conventional glass. Thanks to this manufacturing system, the idea of glass as a fragile material is a thing of the past. Now it is a product of considerable strength, capable of resisting impacts. It should be stressed that the tempering process increases glass's strength and transforms this material into safety glass proof against breakages thanks to a thermal shock process, the same as that used in metal alloys, which stretches and considerably hardens the glass.

Tempered glass has been classified as a safety material for the construction industry, as per standard UNE-EN 1250-1, and its use is particularly recommended in areas with a high density of people.

The Cristal Pontevedresa's horizontal tempering furnace with convection system incorporated produces glass with dimensions of 4,200 x 2,400 mm, with a wide range of applications. Temperedglass can be used in architecture, interior design, urban and home furniture, window dressing and signs.

Above all, the use of Temperedglass is ideal in applications in which both safety and aesthetics are of importance. The versatility of tempered glass is achieved thanks to the mechanical improvements implemented in the manufacturing process, making it the ideal option for both exteriors and interiors. In addition, thanks to its mechanical strength and the quality of its surfaces, Temperedglass is ideal for use in all applications in which solidity and invulnerability have to be guaranteed.
