Leighton Contractors awarded Duralie coal contract extension

Leighton Contractors' Resources Division has been awarded a seven-year contract extension worth $350 million by Gloucester Coal. Under the contract, Leighton Mining will undertake mine planning, surface mining operations, maintenance and site rehabilitation work at the Duralie project, which is situated in the Gloucester Basin, north of Newcastle, New South Wales.

The Duralie Project is an open-cut coal operation which produces approximately 1.8 million tonnes of coking and thermal coal per year and at the current rates of production it is expected mining will continue until 2020.
