| Greenlee new 24-inch and 30-inch long auger bits Greenlee, a Textron Inc. company, launched its new 24-inch and 30-inch long auger bits to its holemaking product line. The new extended length auger bits were developed to make it easier for utility workers and electrical contactors to drill holes with a depth exceeding that of standard 18-inch auger bits, especially in salt treated utility poles or other wood structures. "We wanted to develop a longer length auger bit that would work much better than an extension for use in utility applications," said Brian Allison, Senior Product Manager. "Extensions sometimes catch or prevent the feeding of chips and that's not the best situation for the end-user." The long auger bits are made from hardened alloy steel and designed with Greenlee's patented cutting edge for fast and easy drilling. The self-feeding threaded screw point draws the bit completely through the wood, so there's no need to push the bit while driving the shaft. The over center flute design allows for the evacuating of chips. The shaft is straightened for fewer vibrations to the hand and to help control the quality of the wood. The cutting edge can be re-sharpened multiple times and will continue to self feed. The 7/16-inch hex shank comes with an easy to fit quick change groove for optimal use with Impact Drivers. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
