New siding donated by CertainTeed Corporation

The Brevard Zoo, Melbourne, Fla., is simply wild about the new CertainTeed WeatherBoards FiberCement Siding installed this year in the zoo's one-of-a-kind "Paws On" children's play area. The new siding, donated by CertainTeed Corporation, was part of a recent renovation to create the eye-catching, child-friendly educational area the zoo desired. Siding contractor Bennett Construction, Inc., Brevard County, Fla., installed WeatherBoards FiberCement Cedar Lap Siding. Ideal for use in humid, southeastern states, the siding is impervious to wood-boring insects, resists the damaging rays of the Florida sun, and will not rot, unlike traditional wood siding.

"Available in a wide variety of designer colors and premium stains, WeatherBoards provides an authentic texture and natural appeal without the ongoing maintenance and hassles of traditional wood siding," says Allison Barlaz, director of marketing at CertainTeed Corporation. "Now, the zoo can focus its time on the animals, its patrons and its newly-renovated, child-focused space. CertainTeed is proud to be a part of this eye-opening and educational exhibit."

"Paws On" is an area for children to learn, build and explore. Featuring an aquarium with animals from the Indian River Lagoon, animal fort building, a petting zone and daily programs, children will be enveloped in the animal world. Highlights of the children's play area include a Wildlife Detective Training Academy, the first-ever indoor exhibit featuring a pretend vet lab and an animal exhibit home to more than 40 mammals, snakes, lizards, tortoises, amphibians and invertebrates.

"The 'Paws On' exhibit allows parents and children to explore and build long-lasting memories," says Jon Brangan, deputy director at the Brevard Zoo. "CertainTeed's gracious donation has helped make this exhibit possible and has allowed us to create a one-of-a-kind experience for children of all ages."

CertainTeed FiberCement Siding is made with an exclusive, patented formula using a combination of recycled fly ash, Portland cement, wood fiber and specialty additives. The formula creates an environmentally friendly product with the most authentic-looking grains and textures of any fiber cement siding on the market. In green building design projects, CertainTeed FiberCement contributes to credits for LEED and the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) National Green Building Standard guidelines.
