| Sacyr to construct a motorway in Northern Ireland The Department for Regional Development in Northern Ireland has prequalified the consortium led by Sacyr with Will Bros and P. Clarke & Sons for the preliminary plan tender and subsequent construction of two stretches that make up the A5 Western Transport Corridor project- including the south of Strabane to South of Omagh stretch and the South of Omagh to Aughnacloy stretch in Northern Ireland. Each stretch requires an investment of approximately €200 to €220 million. Therefore, the total investment would exceed €400 million. The aim of the project is to construct a motorway (Corridor A5) with an additional stretch; the motorway will therefore be 80 km long linking Londonderry (in the northeast border with Ireland) with Aughnacloy (in Northern Ireland's southern border). This new motorway will improve connections between County Donegal (Republic of Ireland) and the rest of Ireland through Northern Ireland. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
